Pratt Institute Honors Vogue's Hamish Bowles at Student Fashion Event

Style 1 Media On April 27th, Pratt Institute honored Hamish Bowles, Vogue's European Editor-at-Large, with its annual Fashion Icon Award in recognition of his unique style and ability to inspire young people. Fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, who received the honor in 2006, presented the award to Mr. Bowles (shown left) at the Pratt Fashion Show and Cocktail Benefit. This dazzling runway show featured work from the senior class of fashion designers in women's, men's, evening, bridal, sportswear, and costume design. The audience included Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, Vogue Creative Director Grace Coddington, and fashion designer Catherine Malandrino, the 2010 recipient of the Fashion Icon Award.

Pratt Institute President Thomas F. Schutte kicked off the awards and runway show with welcome remarks. Other speakers were Pratt Fashion Design Department Acting Chair, Rebeccah Pailes-Friedman, and Cotton Incorporated Director of Product Trend Analysis, Linda de Franco. Cotton Incorporated and the Importer Support Program of the Cotton Board contributed to funding for the Pratt Fashion Show.

Presenter Diane von Furstenberg, President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), is universally known for her seminal 1972 wrap dress design. Fashion Icon Award recipient Hamish Bowles oversees all interior design features, writes profile stories, and covers fashion, contemporary culture, and the history of fashion and style for Vogue. A cocktail party to honor Mr. Bowles followed the show and awards. The party featured music by The Misshapes and a grand toast to Mr. Bowles by Pratt President Thomas F. Schutte.
