Amores Quebrados (Broken Love): Federico García Lorca's Love Songs

Style 1 Media Beginning Thursday, August 11th through Sunday, August 21st, Suite Hispania and Repertorio Español present Amores Quebrados: Federico García Lorca's Love Songs, a delightful evening of music, song, and Flamenco dance. The production by Ellen Echeverría, with musical direction by Ignacio Prego, showcases the talents of an extraordinary group of musicians. The performers interpret Lorca's poetry through a suite of musical numbers featuring opera, dance, guitar, cello, piano, and percussion, in which classical, jazz, and flamenco music are creatively intertwined.

The musicians are international virtuoso artists and seasoned professionals. Musical Director and pianist Ignacio Prego has performed throughout Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, the United States, Canada, Chile, China and Romania. His recordings can he heard on the Piccolo and Verso labels. Flamenco guitarist and music arranger Salva de María, who was born into a legendary flamenco family in Madrid, performs regularly with Noche Flamenca, and has toured Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the United States with the company.

Award-winning cellist María Martínez, born in Madrid, currently works and teaches at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, and has toured throughout the United States and Europe. Odei Lizaso is resident percussionist with Manuela Carrasco's Flamenco Company in Madrid, where he also teaches. He has been invited to perform at the prestigious Bienal de Flamenco in Seville in 2012.

Soprano Amaya Arberas, has performed numerous operatic roles in Spain, France, and the United States, at venues including including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Flamenco and classical Spanish dancer Nélida Tirado began dancing at the age six and now tours internationally. She has performed at the Bienal de Flamenco in Seville.

This limited encore engagement of Amores Quebrados appears by popular demand after the production's first appearance at Repertorio Español in May, 2010. The performance is made possible, in part, by the Consulate General of Spain in New York and the Program for Cultural Cooperation between Spain's Ministry of Culture and United States' Universities.
