Style 1 Media The Loeb Boathouse in Central Park was a mecca for top fashion designers and fashionistas on August 17th, when the Couture Council of the Museum at Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) hosted its annual Summer Party. Members and guests of the Couture Council mingled in this idyllic setting for possibly the last time before the hectic Fall Fashion Week in September. Founder and Chairman Elizabeth (Liz) T. Peek thanked supporters with a champagne toast and urged them all to attend the upcoming benefit luncheon honoring Valentino with The Couture Council Artistry of Fashion Award for 2011. Board Vice Chair Yaz Hernández, and Nominating Committee Heads Alexandra Lebenthal and Charlotte Moss were on hand to welcome guests, along with Museum at FIT Director, Dr. Valerie Steele. Notable fashion designers at the event included Zac Posen, Eric Javitz, Maria Cornejo, Gemma Khang, Tiffany Koury, Maggie Norris, Devon Scott, Patricia Field, Douglas Hannant, Cathy Hardwick, Cece Cord, and Raul Melgoza. Other supporters included television personalities Tom Murro; Carson Kressley; Chris Nirschel (Food Network); and Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen (Real Housewives of New York).

The Couture Council of The Museum at FIT is a membership group of fashion aficionados that helps support the Museum's fashion exhibitions, permanent collection acquisitions, and public programs. The Museum has the distinction of being the only museum in New York City dedicated solely to the art of fashion. Known for its innovative and award-winning exhibitions, the museum has a collection of more than 50,000 garments and accessories dating from the 18th century to the present. Its mission is to advance knowledge of fashion through exhibitions, publications, and public programs.

Additional support comes from fundraising events such as the annual Summer Party and the annual Couture Council Awards Luncheon that will honor Valentino on September 7, 2011. The luncheon at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, will be chaired by Anne H. Bass, Charlotte Moss, Diane von Furstenberg and The Honorable Daphne Guinness, whose personal couture collection will be the subject of an exhibition opening at The Museum at FIT in September 2011. A selection of Valentino’s masterpieces will be featured in this exhibition as well.
