Sens Production - Noémie Lafrance 10th Anniversary Gala

Style 1 Media On October 5th Sens Production celebrated its 10th Anniversary Gala at Susan and Marvin Numeroff's Artisanal House in Chelsea. Sens Production, a New York-based non-profit experimental arts organization, was founded in 2001 by Canadian-born choreographer and artistic director Noémie Lafrance. The organization produces site-specific dance performance, film, and video that explore the dynamics of movement in public spaces and in architectural contexts. Noémie Lafrance's body of work includes such pieces as Descent, staged in a lower Manhattan twelve-story stairwell designed by architect Stanford White; Noir, performed in a parking garage and viewed by the audience through their car windshields; and Agora, presented at the reopening of Brooklyn's formerly abandoned McCarren Park Pool site.

Speakers at the gala included Honorary Committee Member Jill Smith, who spoke of how Noémie Lafrance has inspired her. Elizabeth Koch, Arts and Culture Specialist at the Brooklyn Borough President's Office, presented Ms. LaFrance with a proclamation on behalf of Honorary Chair, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz. She spoke of how Ms. LaFrance had changed McCarren Park. Finally, Noémie Lafrance. gave an emotional speech, emphasizing the uniqueness and need for live performance in this age of digital media, in which everything can be reproduced.
