Sagamore Hotel Celebrates 10th Anniversary of Art Basel Miami Beach Brunch
1671 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL | 12.03.2011 | by Merry Esparza
The ultimate art brunch experience during Art Basel Miami Beach is the high profile annual
Sagamore Hotel Art Basel Miami Brunch. In 2011 the art fair celebrated its 10th anniversary in
Miami Beach and the Sagamore celebrated the 10th anniversary of its elegant brunch event. Known as the "Art Hotel," the Sagamore
was opened in 2001 by Martin Taplin and Cricket Taplin, and houses the
prestigious Cricket Taplin Collection of contemporary art, 25 years in the making. The hotel lobby,
stairwells, suites, gardens, lounges, and public areas showcase paintings, photographs, murals, sculpture, and video. This year
the Sagamore featured Will Ryman's 2011 work "65th Street"
(shown right), a 22-foot-high fiberglass, resin, and stainless steel sculpture on view
in the Sagamore's beachfront area during the week of art.
The annual brunch did not disappoint. Artists, designers, celebrities, collectors, curators, gallerists, and fashionistas,
mingled in the hotel lounge areas and relaxed poolside. Guests enjoyed luscious sweet and savory crepes handmade and cooked on the spot;
juicy beef burgers garnished with cabernet braised onions, portobello mushrooms, and herbed goat's cheese; and a wide assortment of fresh fruit and pastries.
Coffee, fruit juices, and (of course) champagne flowed seemingly without limit. The morning was beautiful, the event colorful, and the
artwork fabulous. The Sagamore Hotel Art Basel Miami Brunch is an annual event not to be missed.
